What is the process of iron removal in Bangladesh?

Oxidation filtration is the required process through which the plant removes iron from the water. The process involves oxidizing the soluble form of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) to the other soluble form that removes these elements from water. The oxidant not only oxidizes the iron and manganese but also removes iron-related bacteria including any other disease-causing bacteria without any doubt.

The Iron removal system

An accurate iron removal system involves many processes while removing the iron and manganese from the water. The plant uses modern technology to purify water. The system mainly consists of four processes-

Aeration process:

  • Through the sturdy sprinkler pipes, the water is pumped into the aeration tank situated on the ground
  • Then the water travels to the second chamber from the first chamber through a precisely designed vent located in the baffle wall.
  • When the water reaches the third chamber, it establishes maximum air contact, and eventually, the iron content begins to oxidize and suspend iron.
  • With required facilitation and expedition, the PH level of feed water can be maintained.
  • An effective aeration process depends on the iron level of the water. Normally the aeration tank takes 4 to 8 hours to process the system.

Filtration process:

  • The aerated water along with the suspended iron particles have to be sent to the ferrous-free iron removal unit.
  • Ferrous-free iron remover contains depth Filtration technology which consists of five layers of unique filter media.
  • The filter media oxidizes the leftover dissolved iron content available in the raw water.
  • Ferrous-free iron remover can be designed based on the particular flow rate formula.

  Maintenance process:

  • After the filtration process, a backwash process takes place. Through the reverse direction, a ferrous free iron removal unit sends water to remove the accumulated iron particles which were suspended earlier.
  • The sufficient pressure of water agitates the filter media and helps to take out all the iron particles using the drain port.

  Rinse process:

  • After the backwash is completed, the agitate media allows water to pass away through the filter media.
